On a world with two suns, a young couple leave their city in a bubble and go to live in a small rural community. Is it the freedom they’ve been looking for? That’s the premise of Sophie Goldstein’s graphic novel “The Oven”. This week Sophie talks with Tim about “The Oven”, readers who have varying interpretations of her work, her warning for budding comics creators, and more.
The conversation varies, but it basically focuses around Marvel Comics, our history with them, what books we’re reading, which ones we love and which ones we’re not really that into.
Also, thanks to our friends at Random Distribution and AudioShocker for showing CBP love on their latest podcasts. Much appreciated!

There is no way we could record a new episode and not talk about the big 100th issue of The Walking Dead. To avoid MAJOR SPOILERS, skip ahead to 27:45.
After that, we catch up on the issues of Before Watchmen that have come out so far (Minutemen, Silk Spectre, Comedian, Nite Owl, Ozymandias) and our feelings are mixed.

Sometimes, a comic book is so terrible, that it’s not enough to throw it
away or give it away; you may need to get your hands dirty and kill
your comic.
In our first installment of KYC, we deep-fry the craptactular Youngblood #71.
Comic Book Pitt does not endorse deep-frying comic books and takes no
responsibility for any injuries or damage that may occur in the process.
Okay, well maybe we’re exaggerating a little with those cliched comic book sayings. It’s still Dan and the Duke, but it’s a brand new year and we have a lot to talk about. We’ve been gone for three weeks, but the comic book industry stops for no one. We talk about the recent New 52 cancellations/replacements, Rob “I Have More Lives Than a Cat” Liefeld’s New 52 assignments, Walt Simonson on Avengers, Gene Ha on Justice League, DC Comics’ new logo and, of course, we manage to squeeze in a few reviews.
We’ve also issued one challenge to ourselves: to interview Rob Liefeld. Love him or hate him, Rob is one of the most well known personalities in comics and has had an incredible (and some might say, infamous) career.

Dang and Duke are on the front line to talk about some of the books in the first wave of releases from this week.

One man took up the challenge to become the first new member of Comic Book Pitt since it’s inception. One of our first listeners and good friend, Jeff Moreci, is our new co-host and he’ll be alternating weeks with the Duke.
In this episode, Jeff and Dang have one long conversation, first catching Jeff up on DC’s “The New 52” project and then talking about digital comics, independent comics, selling off comics, repurchasing comics we sold, and seller’s remorse.
NEW CONTEST!
Our new co-host needs a nickname, but to make things more fun, we all want new nicknames. The twist is, they have to be in the style of the old Marvel Bullpen as perfected by Stan ‘The Man’ Lee. He anointed creators with such names as Merry Gerry Conway, Gentleman Gene Colan (or Gene ‘the Dean’ Colan), Sturdy Steve Ditko, Rascally Roy Thomas, Jazzy John Romita and of course, Jack ‘King’ Kirby.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to come up with the nicknames for Dan, Scott and Jeff in the style of the old Marvel Bullpen. The prize will be announced on next week’s show.
The deadline is 12:00am, July 31st, 2011. Email your submissions to comicbookpitt@gmail.com.
