Welcome to Episode 46 of Tales of the Justice Society of America!
This week, Scott and Mike aren’t screwing around, Dear Listeners! There is no introductory discussion this week as the guys just jump right into the third chapter in the EPIC Crisis on Earth-Prime storyline.
Chapter Three takes place in Justice League of America #208, which boasts a fantastic George Perez cover featuring all of the main players completely mesmerized by the awesome ‘fro that the mushroom cloud-headed Per Degaton is sporting. He is sure to be a hit with the ladies, assuming they don’t die of radiation poisoning first.
This exciting chapter of the story tells the full story of why Earth-Prime is a desolate, holocaust-torn landscape in 1982 full of mutants and Aussie ex-cops trying to get a tanker truck full of gas to those that need it despite the bikers that want to stop them is revealed. Or… something like that.
You’ll love the funny bit involving a VCR! (If you don’t know what a VCR is, Scott and Mike suddenly feel REALLY old)
There is also a lot of fun discussion — including a quick history lesson on how DC completely screwed over the history of Hawkman; a brief discussion on the movie Fat Man and Little Boy (which leads to a discussion on Star Trek: The Next Generation because for minute Mike and Scott thought this was Star Trek Monthly Monday or something); a reminder on why Per Degaton stories bother Scott and Mike; Mike’s terrible John Travolta impersonation; Don Heck’s artwork; why Firestorm is kind of like Geordi La Forge (because – again – the guys think this is Star Trek Monthly Monday); why Kennedy probably wouldn’t have nuked Earth-Prime; and so much more!!
The guys also read a handful of YOUR e-mails! WOW!!
Next time: All-Star Squadron #15, the penultimate chapter of Crisis on Earth-Prime!

WE’RE STILL BACK!
The best thing to EVER happen to the Internet returns for the second week in a row of brand spanking new episodes guaranteed to entertain you or your money back!*
(*Offer not vaild…anywhere.)
This week, Scott and Mike continue their look at the EPIC Crisis on Earth-Prime storyline that ran through All-Star Squadron and the first volume of Justice League of America. Part Two took place in All-Star Squadron #14 and, while it did not further the story all that much, it was still an entertaining read. Following the synopsis and notes section, Mike reads a missive from the letters page that leads to a rather lengthy discussion on why Nazis pretty much suck. After that, the guys take a look at what else was going on in the DC Multiverse at the time and even read one of YOUR e-mails.
WINSTON CHURCHILL HIMSELF SAID THAT THIS IS A GREAT PODCAST!
Or, y’know, he would if he wasn’t all dead and stuff…
Well what are you waiting for? LISTEN ALREADY!

WE’RE BACK!
That’s right, folks. Despite previous reports of the demise of TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA the show is NOT dead. In fact, Scott and Mike are back on a WEEKLY basis so Fridays just got interesting again.
This time out the guys pick up where they left off, but surprisingly they will not be covering the next issue of ALL-STAR SQUADRON. Starting this week Mike and Scott will be covering one of the best stories to come out of this era of ALL-STAR SQUADRON…CRISIS ON EARTH PRIME. Not only is this a major story-arc for the All-Stars but it also crosses over with another DC title namely JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA! This is almost historic because while books crossover into each other all the time these days when this story was published it was like rare.
CRISIS ON EARTH PRIME begins in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #207 and this one has it all, folks! The Justice Society! The Justice League! The Crime Syndicate! The All-Star Squadron (for all of five seconds)! Sonny and Cher! William Shatner! The 1972 Miami Dolphins! Paul Lynde! Bea Arthur! The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders!
Ok, 95% of those people don’t appear in this issue, but it’s a pretty awesome story anyway. There is action, intrigue, super-heroes and time travel. All the things a growing comic fan needs.
Next Week: ALL-STAR SQUADRON #14 and the second part of CRISIS ON EARTH PRIME!

AFTER A WEEK OFF TALES OF THE JSA IS BACK!
So yeah…ignore the talk of Black Friday because Mike and Scott were expecting this episode to be up last week but it just didn’t work out that way. Nevertheless the guys have returned and have brought All-Star Squadron #13 with them. This is a character driven story that gives us some down time after the “epic” battle the team had with Hastor. The reviews are mostly positive though Scott and Mike do get a little serious when discussing one of the main plot points of the story. This is as close as they ever want to get to an actual political discussion on the show. Other than that it is the usual mix of banter, snark, Elsewhere in the Multiverse (courtesy of Mike’s Amazing World of DC Comics) and even a handful of e-mails there at the end.
HEADS UP, Y’ALL! REMEMBER TO ALSO LISTEN TO THIS WEEK’S BACK TO THE BINS FOR SOME MORE EARTH-2 GOODNESS! YOU’LL LOVE IT! MIKE AND SCOTT PROMISE!
Next week: The first part of Crisis on Earth Prime! Check out Justice League of America #207 for the first part of this truly epic storyline!

Tales of the Justice Society of America is back!
All righty…this show was rife with technical difficulties, so the usual posting fun has been suspended for the week. Just know that Scott and Mike talk about All-Star Squadron #12 and they didn’t like it much.

Because YOU Demanded It!!
TALES is back and this time we come in at just under an hour. Why’s that? Well, this story isn’t exactly the greatest, let’s be honest. It’s not terrible! Not by a long shot. But, at the same time, Scott and Mike didn’t want to spend the whole time bashing it either because they really do love Roy Thomas as a writer… plus Mike had to meet up with his parole officer and he can’t be late for that. They tend to throw him in jail and stuff.
Anyway, we get more on the identity of the wacky alien what’s come to Earth to start a ruckus. There’s some fighting and, at the end, we find out who the ultimate bad guy is. Who is it, you ask? Well you’ll have to listen to the episode and find out! Duh.
Plus — the guys look at the ads, the letters page, and even read some of YOUR e-mails.
Next week: This story ends! Yaaaay!

WAIT! BEFORE YOU LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE CHECK OUT BACK TO THE BINS #65! < YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED!
WELCOME BACK TO THE MOST AWESOME PODCAST ABOUT THE GOLDEN AGE DC CHARACTERS EVER!
It is a lean and mean episode this week as Scott and Mike were pressed for time but it is solid nonetheless!
This issue, All-Star Squadron #8, kicks off with Steel fighting the Black Assassin, a villain Scott believes is misnomered because the guy ISN’T black (and if comics had taught Scott one thing, it’s that if a character has the word “black” in their name then they are supposed to be black)!!
Then we get a re-worked version of the first half of the unpublished STEEL: THE INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN #6, which proves to Mike that his high opinion of Don Heck’s work on STEEL was colored by Ordway’s inks over Heck’s pencils in this and the next issue of ALL-STAR SQUADRON.
So all of that is composed of pure, 100-proof awesome, right? Nothing could possibly mess that up, right? WRONG! Kung the Assassin shows up and stinks up the joint. Seriously. This guy sucks out loud. Thankfully this doesn’t ruin the story and proves to be a mild speed bump in an otherwise fantastic issue.
The issue commentary is followed by a fairly long, but fascinating discussion on the merits of Jerry Ordway’s current art, which leads to talk of Superman and Captain Marvel. It’s a lengthy digression, to be sure, but was a lot of fun to record!
Finally, the guys dive into Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse and that rounds out the episode!
