View from the Gutters #91 — Thor, by J. Michael Straczynski

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is Thor, by J. Michael Straczynski with art by Oliver Coipel and Marko Djurdjevic. This series of Thor began in the aftermath of Civil War, and features the return of Thor and Asgard from non-existence after being destroyed in Ragnarok some years previous. In this series we see Thor, now king in Asgard, striving to revive his people and his home, and find a new purpose for both them and himself without Odin or the specter of Ragnarok hanging over them.

It also features the return of Dr. Donald Blake, Thor’s long abandoned para-persona (now invested with a life of his own) and the first appearance of female Loki (a favorite of cosplayers and fans of cool character design everywhere). This book is a great run, and a great jumping on point for readers interested in picking up Thor for the first time.

In our recommendation section, our hosts nominated Flashpoint, Paradise X, Captain Marvel, and Superman: Red Son for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is Paradise X. You can also check out our prior episodes on Earth X and Universe X.

Our hosts for this episode are Tobiah Panshin, Brant Gillihan-Eddy, Kayleigh Fleeman, and Cade Reynolds.
