Deconstructing Comics #557: Thi Bui and “The Best We Could Do”

The Best We Could DO

Our friend Matt Silady is back with us for the first time in five years, and he’s here to introduce us to a friend: Thi Bui, who recently completed her decade-long quest to create a graphic novel about three generations of her family in the context of Vietnamese and American history. After catching up with Matt, Tim talks with Thi about the book, The Best We Could Do, and how she now finds herself teaching comics!

I always go to my local comics shop looking for a great story! This week, during episode 213, I talk with Brahm Revel, creator of a series of graphic novels from Oni Press called Guerillas, which is an all-time favorite of mine! The third volume is scheduled for release in May, so I appreciated the chance to discuss these books with Brahm, including where the idea for this series came from, who the characters are, and what we can expect  from the third book. You’ll also want to listen because Brahm has a special announcement about the future of Guerillas, one that, if you’re a fan like me, you won’t want to miss! Be sure to listen to this great interview about a terrific comic you should be reading if you haven’t picked it up already! Really!
