Arc Reactions – 35.2 – Denver Comiccon 2015 Part 1

Denver Comiccon 2015 was amazing. Dylan and John were able to interview 8 writers and artists for DC comics as well as 2 bands that were at the convention. We had so many interviews that we had to breakup this coverage into 2 episodes. In this episode, Dylan and John also talk about their overall experience at the convention including cosplay, people they met, and the panels they were able to attend.

F BombCast 97: Homo For Como

This one is a Barn Burner folks. get enthralled on who is a better crooner: Crosby, Como, or Sinatra, and whether Barbara Streisand belongs in that group. Enjoy as the boys Discuss Love Story and Saturday night Fever. Is Funny Girl a Movie that Transcends Sexual Orientation. If you don’t listen you will never know the true answers. Kick ass is spoken about in earnest now that two members of the show have seen it, and the deficiencies of Mark Millar as a writer are proven again and again. The Preacher Vs. The Boys (and how many times can TJ destroy his own argument by mistakenly calling Preacher The Boys). TJ has put on his Catholic school girl skirt and his hair in pig tails as he gets more into the world of Manga, this time with Deathnote Vol. 1. Mike and Kevin decide which run of Power Girl is better and the almost come to blows (well not really it is actually very cordial and dare i say delightful). Kevin loves Spitfire and Spitters and Head in general. We learn that Paul Cornell is actually a woman. Dna JT sah neeb detniopassid ni Annataz hcihw sah denrut morf ynnuf ot gnirob ni eerht seussi. Lastly Tj get Warren Ellis’s run of Excalibur spoiled for him but it leads to a x talk so that is fun. Enjoy!

Hey there, Cats and Kittens! We are back with racks and racks of the best on wax, so hows about another groovy sound-spin on WJSA because it’s BOSS?

No? Awright, awright, so maybe we DON’T have racks and racks of the best on wax, but we DO have The Origin of Power Girl in Showcase Comics 97 through 99 this week and BOY.. is it “meh”!! Compared to the Huntress Origin, which the guys LOVED so much, it’s pretty disappointing. Mike and Scott were expecting PG’s origin to be just as good. Sadly, not the case (queue the sad trombone). Now, the issues aren’t terrible or anything, but there is a LOT of goofy going on in them (some of which makes Mike just scratch his head and wonder “What the hell am I lookin’ at here?!”).

Afterwards, the guys come back with a bit o’ e-mail from THE BEST LISTENING AUDIENCE IN THE KNOWN MULTI-VERSE! Subjects include: “Guy Gardner — The Awesomesauce or Captain of the Douche-Bag Brigade”?; Scott’s curiosity over where the JSAers were during the Space Race; Why one listener REALLY likes the show (the check is in the mail, Justin); How Power Girl is a very “healthy” girl and some women just need to eat a frickin’ cheeseburger now and again; And the irony of the JSA’s faithful service to their country all during World War II, yet they were called on the carpet by the guv’ment in the Fifties!

Oh, and Mike goes off on a rant. A political one, which made Scott happy because he was tired of being the only one to do such a thing!

Next Week: The Huntress In BATMAN FAMILY! BE THERE!! Ahoha.

Tales of the Justice Society of America #26

ARE YOU READY FOR MORE JLA/JSA AWESOMENESS?

Here is the final installment of The TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA‘s three-part look at the Justice League/Justice Society team-ups that took place after ALL-STAR COMICS #58!! This time, Scott and Mike are REALLY FREAKING EXCITED because BOTH of these stories feature art by the one and only GEORGE PEREZ! Not only that, but the stories are freaking amazing, too!

In the first story, the two teams of Justice come face to face with the New Gods as they fight to stop Darkseid from destroying EARTH-2! Sure, there are a few problems with the story (Scott takes issue with Superman whining about feeling like an outsider and Mike thinks that the New Gods were best left to Kirby), but there is a whole lot of fun in this tale and the art, after the first issue, kicks up to 11 because… did we mention that George Perez came on as artist during these stories? We did? Well, we’re going to say it again because GEORGE PEREZ IS COMPOSED OF 100% AWESOME!

Then, there’s what Mike believes to be the BEST JLA/JSA TEAM-UP of all freaking time (and Scott pretty much agrees)!! It’s the JLA and the JSA versus the NEW Secret Society of Super-Villains in a yarn that is damn near perfect from beginning to end! Not only do we get to see a really great team of villains being assembled, but we also get to see the Earth-2 Superman as drawn by George Perez!!

Did we mention George Perez? We did? Well, that’s because GEORGE PEREZ IS COMPOSED OF 100% AWESOME!

This is a beast of an episode, clocking in at nearly two hours, but we feel it is totally worth it! In fact, we guarantee it or your money back!!

Next week: THE RETURN OF LISTENER FEEDBACK!!

Tales of the Justice Society of America #25

THE JLA/JSA CROSSOVER AWESOME SAUCE CONTINUES THIS WEEK!

Scott and Mike are back again, fresh from their escape… I mean release… yes… release from that loony bin… I mean mental health facility… yes… mental health facility… and there was no escape at all. Mike and Scott didn’t stick the pills they were given to take under their tongues and empty the contents into a napkin and then drug the night attendant and then rip the water fountain out of the floor, throw it through the window, and flee into the night. None of that happened and if anyone asks you about it you don’t know anything, all right? All right.

Um, anyway… this week, the guys continue their look at the Justice League of America /Justice Society of America crossovers that took place after ALL-STAR COMICS #58 with two stories — one that involves time travel and another that involves the Justice Society being real douche bags to a fellow hero!!

In JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #s 159 and 160, heroes from the past (including one of Scott’s all time favorites, Jonah Hex!!) are used by the Lord of Time to mess with the JLA/JSA. There’s a lot of wonky in this story, and Scott has far more to say about it than Mike, but what’s new, right? RIGHT? :taps microphone: Is this thing on?

Then, in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #s 171 and 172, the teams get together and, as per usual, someone dies!! For once, it’s NOT one the “escorts” that Batman brings around and that tend to end up crushed and mangled after Superman gets into the Captain Morgan. This time, it’s… well, I’d say it was a member of the JSA, but Mister Terrific, as Hawkman is so quick to point out after Terrific assumes room temperature, wasn’t “really” a part of their little clique now, was he? This is an old-fashioned, closed-door murder mystery with Batman and the Huntress trying to figure out who did the deed, leaving Scott and Mike to try to figure out why the Justice Society were being such utter dicks to a fellow super-hero. Seriously!! They cut this guy ZERO freaking slack and then, after he dies, they act like it’s no big deal!! Frankly, the guys are surprised that they put any effort into solving the murder at all!!

Lastly, be sure to join Scott and Mike next week as they look at the final two JLA/JSA crossovers that occur “before” ALL-STAR SQUADRON!! One involves Darkseid, the other involves the Secret Society of Super-Villains!! Be there (or Mike and Scott will short-sheet ya)!!

“Required Reading” for next week — JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA (Vol. 1) #s 183 thru 185 and 195 thru 197!!

Tales of the Justice Society of America #24

0d9c

And lo there came a day… a day like other Fridays… where Scott Gardner and Michael Bailey band together to discuss the adventures of the single greatest super-hero team of all time…THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA!

This week. Scott and Mike begin their look at the legendary (or maybe not-so-legendary) team-ups between the JSA and the JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA in their own title! This time out, the stories are… well, they don’t suck (for the most part), but they don’t exactly set Scott and Mike on fire with excitement, either (though they hear that there’s ointment for that now).

In JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #s 135 thru 137, the heroes of Earth-1 and Earth-2 team up with the heroes of Earth-S and Boy, is this goofy!! I mean, for one thing, two of the characters are named Mr. Scarlet and Pinky, the Whiz Kid. You just can’t make that sort of thing up!! This story also promises the FIRST titanic meeting between Superman and Captain Marvel!! And what should have been the throw-down to end all throw-downs… sadly, wasn’t.

Then, in issues 147 and 148, the JLA and JSA team-up once again. Only this time, they are joined with the LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES to battle Mordru!! Mike and Scott really don’t have a whole heck of a lot to say about this story because, frankly, it was the very definition of “meh”. Oh, sure… they talk about how Power Girl seems to have some sort of freaky, unnatural, backwoods, redneck attraction to the Earth-1 Superman, but, for the second time this episode, what should have been an EPIC storyline involving the greatest heroes of three eras… sadly, wasn’t.

Oh, and Scott meets his idol at show’s end… but it doesn’t go well…

“Required Reading” for next week — JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA (Vol. 1) #s 159, 160, 171, and 172!!
