We didn’t think we’d be able to pull it off at the last minute, but we did it! It’s our big 800th episode live recording. Producer Joe comes down from upstate to help out as usual. Special guests: Michael Emerson, Erica Schultz, Jonathan Baylis and Slanty Eyed Mama (Kate Rigg/Lyris Hung)! And, of course, because it’s an anniversary episode, there is plenty of music! Many thanks to the CNI Chorus consisting of Sarah Goldrainer, Liz Pepe, Kristen French, Nicky Schmidlein and Emmy Potter.  Big ups to Hourglass Tavern for letting us hold the show there for the 4th time. Give them a visit if you’re in NYC. News includes: Drew Goddard will direct X-Force, Colin Trevorrow is not directing Star Wars IX anymore, Harley Quinn’s 25th anniversary will have her drawn onto classic Batman covers, Futurama returns as a radio play, the Doctor Who spin-off Class has officially been cancelled and the Guy Ritchie directed live-action Aladdin casts Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders (ugh).

Michael Emerson teases some of his upcoming work on Arrow, talks about his love of the classics and relays some interesting fan interactions. Erica Schultz tells us about her new work Twelve Devils Dancing and other projects. Jonathan Baylis gives the scoop on the new issue of So Buttons…, his autobio comic anthology. And Slanty Eyed Mama update us on what’s happening with them and give us an epic improv spoken word accompanied by violin performance!

Episode 43: Keeping It Real Like the Man of Steel / Weird Science DC Comics Podcast

Superman-45-last-page

ep 43: Jim and Eric get together on Halloween Night, but kind of ignore that fact to talk about DC Comics as usual.  They go over all the DC Comics News, Comic books and even get to talk about Vic Sage’s porn addiction, Mythbrawl and why Batman is the most selfish god of them all.  While they may not be huge fans of every book they talk about, they keep it real like the Man of Steel.  I’m not sure what that means, but I like the sound of it!

The Hour Cosmic, Episode 31: Diggle! with Bryan Q. Miller

Welcome to another installment of The Hour Cosmic, your favorite comics game show! This week, our guest is Hollywood big-shot and new dad Bryan Q. Miller!

On this week’s show, among other things, we discuss:

-ALF comics (again)!

The Mummy, the Citizen Kane of Brendan Frasier movies!

-Image Expo!

-Matt living in a washing machine!

Let’s meet our guest, shall we?

Bryan Q. Miller is the writer of “Smallville Season 11,” a digital first series, for DC Comics, as well as a writer on Defiance on the SyFy Channel. Bryan got his start in comics writing for Smallville before moving on to launching the critically acclaimed “Batgirl” series featuring Stephanie Brown under the cowl. Recently, he successfully funded “Earthward,” an all-ages original graphic novel with Marcio Takara illustrating on Kickstarter. One the nicest guys we’ve ever had on our show, before we started recording, Bryan dropped so much The Mummy knowledge that it took us the first ten minutes of the show to be properly comfortable around a man of such intellect. He has gone “all in” on Twitter, so please follow him there.

As always, your hosts are:

Brian Salvatore – New Jerseyan, New York Mets enthusiast, host of “Input/Output,” a music podcast, and occasional blogger/freelance writer. He has never met a dog he didn’t like (even that one that bit his leg when he was 10), and has baked better bread than he ever thought possible.

Chad Bowers – South Carolinian, GI Joe enthusiast, co-writer of “Subatomic Party Girls” “Down Set Fight,” and “Awesome Hospital” with Chris Sims, and writer of “Monster Plus.” He teaches us cool expressions like “Oh, snakes!” and has a lot of opinions about barbeque.

Matthew Meylikhov – Bostonian, cat and beard enthusiast, co-writer of “Detective Space Cat” with Colin Bell, writer of “Morning Glories Babies,” “Morning Glories Academy Study Hall” (both backmatter for the Image Comics series “Morning Glories“) and “Control,” and letterer extraordinaire. He reads more comics than anyone on the planet, and has sworn off White Castle for life.

You can interact with the show in all sorts of ways – first of all, please rate, review and subscribe to the show in iTunes. You can email us at thehourcosmic@tellmesomething.org. You can follow the hosts on Twitter – @brianneedsanap, @mattisnotarobot, and @VJ_Ostrowski – and while on Twitter, make sure to use the hashtag #TheHourCosmic – or tweet the show directly @thehourcosmic. You can check out our website at thehourcosmic.com, as well as the websites of our corporate overlords at multiversitycomics.com and tellmesomething.org. We, like your mom and that weird kid from high school, are on Facebook, too. Our amazing announcer is Ken Beck – follow him on Twitter and check out his Tumblr. Our super cool logo is by Tim Daniel – please check out his other work. You can check out all of the other great comic shows on the Comics Podcast Network, and you can listen to us anywhere via the Stitcher app.

Radio Free Asgard 90

Thor's-Hammer

This week we dip back into ancient Norse lore with “The Theft of Idunn’s Apples”, and after that we have a look at Thor #378!  – This episode has it all! Burning eagles, melting giants, quick costume changes, collapsing supporting cast, lots of pain for Loki, and a mutant guest-star! Plus, Thor’s cool new armor!

Musical selections from “Eddan, the Invincible Sword of the Elfsmith” are copyright Mats Wendt and are used with permission. (thanks, Mats!)

The Fanboy Tollbooth #22 – Skrull or Thanos?

After the heartbreak of having to take away Keith’s geek card for not knowing the difference between Thanos and the Skrulls, we decided to play a game to help him earn it back.  Can he do it?

Also:

The future of the NY Comic Con in NYC (or Queens?)

What the heck is Darkon?

The Michael Bay (0r Ultimate Warrior) of Comic Books,

and the inevitable Gay Green Lantern Discussion –

All of that, and much more in this SUPER SIZED episode of The Fanboy Tollbooth.
