It’s the epic 600th episode/10 Year Anniversary recording! As usual, we record our anniversary episodes live at a bar and once again, we were at The Hourglass Tavern (373 w. 46th St) here in NYC. Thanks to Beth, Joss and the staff for taking great care of us all. It was a fun filled night with special guests, a few songs and many a drink. Producer Joe was on hand to take care of all of the tech while Jimmy hosted the grand event. Jimmy chatted with old friend Michael Emerson in a lengthy talk about his career, advice for young actors, fan interactions and more. He also talked to awesome comic book writers Anthony Del Col, Vera Greentea and Erica Schultz. Yes, the podcast wife has lots of great writing gigs going on and coming your way. Alas, a few cancellations over the last week (including some comic artists and actors) but still a great group of guests. Thanks to all! Mad props to guest co-hosts Emily Edwards and Jon Hoche for helping out with news and reviews. And big ups to the CNI Chorus (Rachel Felstein, Erick Pinnick, Emmy Potter, Dana Aber, Amy Wolk and Kristen French) for being so melodic and having fun with us.  News includes: Dark Horse comics is bringing back Barb Wire, the animated The Smurfs reboot gets a release date, X-Men: Apocalypse has cast an actual Asian as Jubilee, Legendary Comics to release a Pacific Rim comic, Fear the Walking Dead is the official name for the spin-off and Maisie Williams will guest star in Doctor Who. Comic Timing Extra Point – Episode 11: Gotham and Constantine

gotham

Time for a timely Extra Point! Ian is joined by Kris as they give a spoiler-filled review of both FOX’s Gotham and NBC’s Constantine pilot. As usual, we go over what worked and what needs improvement, the characters of both series and where they begin their journey, how the fracturing of DC’s television properties could wind up hurting more than helping in the long run, the pain of forcing references to the comics into a show *WINK*, Batman’s dead parents, and how Gotham is a lot more Smallville than it is Arrow. Oh, and Kris has quick rant about Star Wars: Scoundrels, by Timothy Zahn.

As always – we are sponsored by DCBS! That’s right! Discount Comic Book Service! All comics from major publishers like Marvel, DC, Image and Dark Horse are 40% off or more. And hardcovers and trade paperbacks from Marvel and DC are at least 50% off! Plus, be sure to check out their Comixology digital storefront for even further savings!

Reviews: The Other Dead #1, The Powerpuff Girls #1, Rat Queens #1, Sex Criminals #1

It’s the epic 500th episode recording and we do it live with an audience at The Hourglass Tavern (373 w. 46th St.) in New York City! We’ve sang for years and have teased a musical since 2005…and this will be the closest you’ll get. Many a musical number and so many special guests! Michael Emerson (Person of Interest, Lost), Carrie Preston (True Blood, The Good Wife), Veronica Taylor (Pokemon), Kevin Maguire (Justice League), ChrisCross (Bloodshot, Katana), Rafael Kayanan (NCIS: LA, Conan), Simon Fraser (Nikolai Dante), Michelle Mozes (Blue Streak), Qui Nguyen (Vampire Cowboys Theatre Co.), and Heidi MacDonald (The Beat). News includes: lightsabers are going to be real, Marvel teases many new titles to be announced at NYCC, DC based TV shows Gotham andConstantine are on the way and Dynamite Entertainment launches toys/games line. The CNI chorus (Patrick Garrigan, Salli Garrigan, Amy Wolk, Kristen French and Erick Pinnick) opens the show with a rocking tune. Jimmy and Kristen sing a duet as Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, a special voice mail from Avengers 2, and Jimmy almost spoils Breaking Bad in song. Many thanks to the rotating co-hosts Erica Schultz (the Podcast Wife), Emily Edwards and Kristin Garay. Of course, none of this would be possible without Producer Joe Gonzalez running everything. As always, listener feedback, Top 3 and more. Leave your iTunes comments! 5 stars and nothing but love!

Comic News Insider Episode 396 – A Conversation with Michael Emerson

Comic News Insider: Episode 396 is now available for free download! Click on the link or get it through iTunes! Sponsored by Dynamic Forces.

In the first of perhaps many crossovers between Comic News Insider and Stated Magazine (Jimmy is the Pop Culture Contributing Editor), Jimmy invites his old pal Michael Emerson (Lost, Person of Interest) into his new abode for a lengthy and all inclusive conversation. As loyal CNI listeners know, Michael has been on the podcast several times during his years on Lost. This time, they chat about Michael’s upbringing, his first interest in theater, moving to NYC to pursue acting, giving it up, moving to Jacksonville, Florida (where he and Jimmy met) and having his passion reignited and moving back to NYC to jump start it all again! Even Jimmy learns things he didn’t know! (A marching band?!) Sit back and enjoy this more serious but still laid back and fun conversation with Michael Emerson!
