Jimmy’s TCAF Panels

I’ll be moderating a couple of panels at TCAF this weekend. Come on by and check them out!
Sports Vs. Comic Books: Making Peace Between Schoolyard Enemies
Jocks Vs. Nerds is an engrained trope, but times have thankfully changed. The North American comics industry is catching up to its European and Japanese compatriots, realizing that blending popular sporting events with comics and graphic novels goes together like peanut butter and chocolate, and the result are great comics that appeal to an entirely new artist. Join authors Box Brown (Andre The Giant), Reinhard Kleist (The Boxer), Wai Au (Fujosports), and Jesse Lonergan (All-Star) for a spirited discussion of this emerging genre of comics!
@ The Pilot Saturday, May 10 11am-12pm
Spotlight: Reinhard Kleist
This would be a feature interview with Kleist about his work and career, with a special focus on The Boxer, which is debuting in English at the festival.

@The Marriott 50 Saturday, May 10 12pm-1:15pm

Wayne Hall, Wayne’s Comics, Brian Joines, Image Comics, Imagine Agents, Krampus!, Santa Claus, Christmas

You’ll enjoy this week’s fun interview with Brian Joines, the comics creator of such wonderful books as Imagine Agents and Krampus!, about the holiday legend sweeping the U.S. Brian talks about how the Krampus! comic came to be and what we might see in the future featuring this character from Image Comics!

Everything wraps up with two news stories I think you’re going to want to know about!

Be back next week as we get closer to episode 125!

Comics Alternative Interviews: Brian Joines

Sticking It to Steven Spielberg…Yeah!

JoinesOn The Comics Alternative‘s first interview of 2014, Gene and Derek are joined by Brian Joines, the writer of the recent comic book series I.M.A.G.I.N.E. Agents (BOOM! Studios) and Krampus (Image Comics). They talk with Brian about how great 2013 was for him, the genesis of his new titles, his apparent fascination with the darker side of childhood, why devil-like holiday figures make good copy, his collaborations JoinesComicswith Bachan and Dean Kotz, the hazards of self-publishing, and the sickeningly sweet and sinister connections between Steven Spielberg and sugar plum fairies. Brian points out, as well, that he’s not a defiler of childhood memories, and that kids should stay in school, not do drugs, and follow their creative imaginations.
