Comic Timing – Episode 185: 2016 Year in Review

Applause! Comic Timing is back! With a bang, one would hope. This episode, Brent and Ian are joined by Raph, Brandon, and returning guest for the first time in forever, Chris Chavez, as we dissect the year that was. 2016 has come and gone, and we go into the best and worst of it when relating to comics. We also give our quickie review and thoughts on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Raph also gives us his take on Doctor Strange, and Ian goes into the joy that is Justice League Action.

As you heard at the top of the episode, there is something that makes this particular episode special. This one was produced differently than any other Comic Timing has been so far. If you can guess what happened, you’ll win $10 on Comixology! Just post on the Facebook thread for this episode, and let us know what you guess happened.

As many of you know, Jimmy (former actor) and Jon (working actor) are both of Asian descent and have lots to say about the subject. Oooh, controversy! ComicsVerse Podcast Episode 61: Doctor Strange – Best Characters in Comics

Marvel just recently revealed how Benedict Cumberbatch is going to look in his role as Doctor Stephen Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme. Those who know about Doctor Strange are aware of just how powerful he is, and the endless possibilities that his presence in the MCU will provide. It’s rumored that the first connection to the upcoming DOCTOR STRANGE movie was in ANT-MAN when he went subatomic. But who exactly is Doctor Strange, and what is it that makes him the Sorcerer Supreme?

LISTEN: Want more of the best underrated characters? DC Comics’ Martian Manhunter was the subject of our last episode!

Join ComicsVerse as we dive into the history of Doctor Strange. Exploring the mysteries of the magical realms, we journey with Strange and Doctor Doom into Mephisto’s hellish realm on Doctor Doom’s most noble quest. We find out just how Strange earned the title of Sorcerer Supreme- and have quite the debate about what exactly this title means.

With some of ComicsVerse’s biggest DOCTOR STRANGE fans, including Editor-in-Chief Travis Czap, Chief Operations Officer Sean Bartley, and ComicsVerse staff and interns Fabio Castelblanco, Brian Delpozo, Kay Honda, and Bob Franco, you’ll discover a character whose power is greater than that of the rest of the Marvel heroes combined… depending on the storyline. While being a hero that is very versatile, he’s also incredibly inconsistent, which makes defining his character a tough task.

HEAR: Like Doctor Strange, Marvel’s BLACK PANTHER will soon be taking over movie theatre’s everywhere, listen to his origin story in this podcast!

This podcast and the readings that correspond with it are so varied, and yet, the one constant is that they never let up on a sense of wonder and mystery. This is a great quality to the stories and to the character himself — whether he is a womanizer or a sage, he always carries with him a superb knowledge of the mystical realm, and deals with it so casually that the reader is forced to be swept up in awe at the magic that has become Stephen Strange’s norm. New readers and old will be left with one major question on their minds- how will Benedict Cumberbatch bring this character to life?

For your convenience, this podcast is also available on iTunes:
