Host Anthony Desiato wades into the cosplay waters with his wife, Stephanie, and seasoned cosplayer Peggy Pincurls, who has appeared at comic conventions across the country as Agent Carter, Winter Soldier, Black Widow, and more. As they explore this fascinating aspect of con life, Anthony, Stephanie, and Peggy address the power of cosplay to connect & inspire, important issues of gatekeeping & consent, and the practical realities & physical toll of donning a costume on the convention floor.
Host Anthony Desiato recruits two convention veterans and Alternate Realities refugees, Drew Cheskin and Brian O’Dea, to share their tips for surviving comic conventions. For those attending a large show for the first time, the episode covers budgeting time and money, navigating the show floor, deciding what type of show experience you are looking for, and more. This summer, be sure to keep tuning in for a two-part “My Comic Shop Book Club” event and a four-part “Beyond My Comic Shop” miniseries, all available under the My Comic Shop History feed!
Host Anthony Desiato heads over to beautiful downtown Harrison, NY, to speak with two of the owners of Aw Yeah Comics NY: comic book creator Franco (TINY TITANS, ENCOUNTER, and the upcoming SUPERMAN OF SMALLVILLE) and ReedPOP’s Mike Negin (C2E2 Event Manager). They discuss Aw Yeah’s recent “Legends” signing, Mike and Franco’s comic shop histories, and some hot topics in the world of comic conventions—from the risk of over-saturating the industry with too many shows to striking a balance between the interests of old-school comic fans and the wider pop culture audience.

It’s becoming a yearly tradition during Chicago’s C2E2 convention that I get to talk with Valiant’s excellent creators. This year was no exception, and Episode 279 kicks off with my interview with Dinesh Shamdasani, Valiant’s CEO and Chief Creative Officer. We delve into all the fascinating happenings with X-0 Manowar, Harbingers and the upcoming digital presentation Ninjak Versus the Valiant Universe, among other things!
Then everything wraps up with my talk with Daniel Kibblesmith, who’s scripting the upcoming return of Quantum and Woody. He’s also writing the Valiant Digital Firsts miniseries Valiant Highnow available on Comixology, so we discuss both projects as well as a certain night job he has writing comedy for a well-known late-night TV show you might recognize! Don’t miss these fun conversations!
I first discovered Impure Blood and Melting Down at this year’s C2E2, and after reading their great books, I knew I had to interview creators Nadja Baer and Nathan Lueth. They discuss how they’re bringing the Impure Blood series of graphic novels to fans everywhere, including how Nathan introduced Nadja to comics, how they work together as a team, and how they put these books together, including using laying out the pages in landscape format instead of the usual portrait mode comics often appear in. This series is also a webcomic, with a new page appearing every Monday. We also talk about Melting Down, which is described as “a comic for kids with Asperger’s Disorder and challenging behavior,” a comic I found both riveting and educational.
This week we look at Thor Vol. 2 #15 – As Thor’s hammer gets fondled by hundreds of people in a dark alley (which isn’t nearly as much fun as it sounds!) – The Enchanters get ready to strike! Plus: I get to meet Stan Lee!
COMICS! COMICS! COMICS! That’s what we love, so we are doing a 100% ALL-COMICS episode of your favourite comics radio show from the true north, strong and free! To do this, we’re calling in the big guns. Strange J from Strange Adventures will be joining us to give us a Free Comic Day report, tell us what he’s reading and maybe to give us a hint as to what is flying off the shelves at his shop on York St. Here in Fredericton. That’s not all! We are also bringing in The Ugly American himself, Ryan Lee. He’s fresh from C2E2 so he’ll give us his report from that as well as an update on the Chronic Insomnia Market Spotlight? Sure, why not!
It all goes down at the regular time, so don’t you dare miss it!
If you want to chime in on our discussion, feel free to post on our Facebook wall or give us a call at 506-453-4949.
The crew returns with another episode of your favorite Friday Night Delight!
This week, it’s Brant, John, Cary and Frank.
We discuss, in a loose format, several news stories and go off on tangents of the X-Men film and so forth. Then we dive into Topic Time talking about our favorite comic films in the past 14 years (though the guys never seem to keep it in that time frame!).
Finally, the guys wrap things up with some announcements.
It’s the 60’s, maaan, so this week we have The Mighty Thor #168, where Thor trips out on Visi-Haze, the Warriors Three break furniture, a bunch of commies unleash the Thermal Man upon us all, and there’s tree murder!! Nuff said!
(by the way, we’re gonna be at C2E2 this year! Check em out, HERE!)
