Episode 38: “He’s Dead Jim” / Weird Science DC Comics Podcast

Dick-Grayson-Nightwing-Batman-vs.-Superman-movie-570x294

Jim and Eric continue the fun this week by discussing all the DC Comics and DC Comic News that two grown men can take.  Along the way, we all learn that their local comic book shop still sucks, Jim doesn’t really pay attention to the news and Eric has a lot of friends who all have ridiculous nicknames.  Jim also continues his nyquil addiction…but it’s all for the good of the podcast.  When they get to the books, they don’t agree as usual, but Jim does convince Eric that We are Robin wasn’t as bad as he first thought.  Jim:1 Eric: 0  Enjoy!

It’s been a tough couple of weeks in Weird Science Land…After the fallout from Eric’s Batman #44 review started to settle, Twitter decided to flag the site as “malicious”!  Delicious maybe, but malicious?  While Eric tries to calm the ship, Jim has conspiracy theories and is just generally pissed off.  After Jim loses his voice and takes too much cold medicine, they hunker down to talk some comics and actually end up in a pretty good mood.  Who knows what the future holds, but one things for sure, “Bricks no hit back”.

Weird Science DC Comics Podcast Episode 23: Batman, The Truth and the DC YOU

Ep 23:

While Jim and Eric tried to tighten things up last week, they are back to their old ways.  This podcast took three tries and two days to record and is a long one indeed!  The longer format gives them a chance to talk about the new Robo Batman, The Truth and every other book this week.  We also learn that Jim’s laptop may or may not have porn on it and that Eric’s 7-eleven is closing soon.  Thankfully, Dan’s Geek News and Ryan’s Other side segment break up the nonsense.

Comics Alternative Interviews: More Craig Yoe

“You can’t go wrong with booty”

YoeFB1For this interview show, Andy and Derek go down the rabbit hole in another conversation with the ever-talented, ever-entertaining Craig Yoe. They primarily discuss Craig’s latest projects, Alice in Comicland and the new Weird Love series (both from IDW Publishing), but they also bring up his other books (such as Comics about CartoonistsHaunted HorrorThe Best of Sexology, and Little Penis: Oh, the Places You’ll Grow!). AliceComiclandThey spend a lot of time talking about the various comics in the new Alice book, highlighting the more straight-laced adaptations, such as Chad Grothkoph’s “Alice Through the Looking-Glass,” classic parodies like Harvey Kurtzman and Jack Davis’s “Alice in Wonderland!”, as well as the truly bizarre and borderline-disturbing translations, e.g., Warren Kremer’s “Little Max Meets Alice in Wonderland” and Serge S. Sabarsky and George O. Muhlfield’s “Alice on Monkey Island.” After that things get a bit weird…with Weird Love! Craig discusses his new bimonthly series, compiled with his wife, Clizia Gussoni, and the inherently strange nature of classic romance comics. With titles such as “I Fell for a Commie,” “Love of a Lunatic,” and “You Also Snore Darling,” the guys have no problem in generating — and degenerating — WeirdLove31offbeat and irreverent conversation. The several Golden and Silver Age stories collected in this first issue of Weird Love cover such topics as sexual politics, misogyny, the women’s liberation movement, Joe Gill’s cultural conservatism, bald creepy guys, and spanking. So get ready to step through the podcasting looking-glass with this sick, kinky, and bizarro conversation with one of comics’ inimitable figures.

And remember: Just say “Yo!” to Yoe!

After an extensive discussion of what is to come over the next month, Child’s Play and Diary of a Wimpy Kid are discussed. We learn what the boys would look like as Tranny superheroes and how tasty that first glass of adult juice was for them. Wildstorm is morned and Black Panther is laughed at.
