Crisis On Infinite Midlives Show Episode 64: My Safe Word Is Phantom Menace

CrisisOnInfinideMidlivesPodcastLogo_300x300The big genre news this week came in the form of about four minutes of film assembled by marketing departments: the second trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (which debuted at a panel at Star Wars Celebration last week), and the first for Superman V. Batman: Dawn of Justice. So, like everyone else in fandom, we discuss them: the content, how they play with expectations by showing us glimpses of long-loved characters and / or story beats from classic comics, and how they really tell us nothing while promising us everything… and how that can drive one mad with useless speculation based on roughly 45 seconds of footage, combined with slightly more dialogue than a Vine video and some kickass music.

We also talk about our plans to cover next weekend’s C2E2 convention in Chicago, including our planned schedule for this show during and after the convention:

  • We will release a recap of Friday at the convention sometime on Saturday, 4/25,
  • We’ll release a recap of Saturday’s programming at our show’s normal time on Sunday, 4/26, and:
  • We’ll release a full recap, including panel audio, on either Monday, 4/27 or Tuesday 4/28.

We also discuss:

  • Convergence: Supergirl Matrix #1, written by Keith Giffen with art by Timothy Green II,
  • The Tithe #1, written by Matt Hawkins with art by Rahsan Ekedal, and:
  • Archie Vs. Predator #1, written by Alex De Campi with art by Fernando Ruiz!

And, the usual disclaimers:

  • We record this show live to tape. While this might mean a looser comics podcast than you are used to, it also means that anything can happen. Like arguing over whether Chewbacca has had plastic surgery done, and where he gets his hair colored and highlighted.
  • This show contains spoilers. While we try to shout out warnings ahead of time, assume that you will discover which members of the Riverdale Gang have had their spines removed.
  • This show contains adult, profane language, and is therefore not safe for work. You want your employer to hear which sexually transmitted diseases are most reminiscent of Midichlorians? Get some headphones.

NOTE: The following panel contains EXPLICIT language throughout. Listener discretion is strongly advised.

The DEATH TO FANBOYS PART 3 PANEL was the fourth and final panel I attended at MegaCon 2015 on Friday, April 10, 2015. It occurred in Room 206A from 5:20 to 6:10 p. m. The panelists and audience discussed some of the recent news items in the comic book industry. The reason the panel was labeled part 3 was because it was the third consecutive year this panel has appeared at MegaCon, but this was the first year I attended it.

Martin Dunn is the Creative Director of and Aly Roth is a colorist for  Hashtag Comics.

Manny Cartoon can be found at mannycartoon.com.

Juan Navarro is Editor-In-Chief of Creature Entertainment.

Jeff Kaufman is President of Big City Comics.

Weird Science DC Comics Podcast Ep 15: Week 2 Convergence, Youtube and Wine Coolers

Ep 15: Jim and Eric are back again and they’ve brought some awful memories along with them.  Eric remembers how his Dad snuck wine coolers into the movies with him and Jim doesn’t know how old his kids are.  They find out that they have gone International on Youtube, but can’t figure out where from and finally get to this week’s books.  They disagree on some of the books, but agree that this week was a bit of a disappointment.  Join us, won’t you?

The FUTURE BEAR’S MISSION BOOK PANEL was the third panel I attended at MegaCon 2015 on Friday, April 10, 2015. It took place in Room 205BC from 4:00 – 5:00 p. m. Prof. Rachel Simmons created Future Bear, and Prof. Julian Chambliss wrote the Future Bear’s comic book story. Cassandra Hill created Future Bear’s rocket pack, Alison Eitner wore the Future Bear costume, assisted by Meredith Connelly. Rachel and Julian are professors at Rollins College who discuss using Future Bear in an educational environment to teach students about  environmental awareness and climate change.

At the end of the episode I read an e-mail about the SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS PANEL! Originally I

had planned to attend the SELF PUB COMICS panel which began ten minutes earlier, but I happened to meet Julian after the 3 BOYS PRODUCTIONS PANEL. We began to talk and I lost track of time. So instead of going to the SELF PUB COMICS panel after it started, I decided to attend this panel instead, and was glad I did. It was interesting to see how comic books can be used in education.

Wayne’s Comics Podcast #172 With Mark Zuelhke From ‘The Loxleys and Confederation’

Wayne's Comics, Wayne Hall, Renegade Arts Entertainment, The Loxleys and the War of 1812, The Loxleys and Confederation, Canada, Mark Zuehlke,

A great comic often does a lot more than entertain – it educates!

This week, I interview Mark Zuehlke, a historian who has scripted The Loxleys and Confederation, a great comic from Renegade Arts Entertainment that discusses how Canada was formed and what influence the United States played in that creation. This book is the sequel to The Loxleys and The War of 1812, another great historical graphic novel that taught me a lot about that war and its aftermath. We follow a family whose existence parallels the formation of Confederation, and provides us with a human perspective on this important period in Canadian history. Mark talks about what it took to bring this volume together as well as things we’ll discover in the book as well as what the future might hold for this important family.

Stay tuned to their website to pre-order this graphic novel and learn more about it as its release date draws near! It’s a great comic that can teach us in the U.S. a lot about our neighbors to the north, so don’t miss it!

Thwipping Boys – Age of Ultron Predictions and Daredevil Season 1

Before the original Avengers came out we were in the minority who had faith that it was all going to work out for the best.

Now at the request of one of our listeners we’re doing our Age of Ultron predictions, difficult this time because one of us is refusing to read any spoilers or watch any trailers. But we give it our best shot anyway.

We also discuss the Daredevil Netflix TV series and our hopes for this new corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Cheers!
