Awesomed By Comics Podcast, Episode #95

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by HTTC, a new segment on the show that you just really don’t want to know the origin of. We say goodbye to legendary runs on Wonder Woman and Power Girl, welcome back the Avatar of Death, cheer Jonathan Hickman’s wise protest in Fantastic Four, and discuss whether Rise of Arsenal #3 is in fact the worst comic ever written, or just the second worst. Also make sure to stay through the end of the show to hear us take our cats to Taco Bell. This is not a euphemism for anything.

Superman Fan Podcast Episode #127: Happy Birthday, Win Mortimer!

Win Mortimer was born on May 1, 1919 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He died on January 11, 1998. He was survived by his wife Eileen, three children, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a prolific comic book artist who drew many stories and covers, mostly for DC Comics, thoroughout his adult life. While he is not very famous, Win Mortimer drew many Superman covers and stories, mostly in the 1940’s and 1950’s. This episode features three of them:

CRIME PARADISE, in ACTION COMICS 101, October 1946, published around August 15, 1946.

THE MAGNETIC MOBSTER, in SUPERMAN 51, March/April 1948, published around January 7, 1948. It was written by Alvin Schwartz and both pencilled and inked by Win Mortimer, who often inked his own work.

THE TORNADO TWINS, in ADVENTURE COMICS 373, October 1968, published around August 29, 1968. This story was written by Jiim Shooter. It was reprinted in LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES ARCHIVE vol. VIII.

Killyrcomics Episode 32

Killyrcomics Episode 32

Episode 32.. I kept thinking it was Episode 33, but, alas, it is only 32. Reviews are fairly limited since Don was on vacation, but he did make it to Summit City Comic-con and he picked up Rambo 3.5. I, on the other hand, just sat around at home and read the Indiana Jones Omnibus, Flash:Rebirth HC, and Dark Tower: Treachery. Don talks about his comic book convention experience. We talk about a new book currently being produced called Azteca. They currently have a kickstarter campaign going at Azteca Kickstarter campaign. Check it out and throw some support their way. Check out the Image solicitations and a book called Sullivan’s Sluggers. We start a new segment called “Sh*t I’m not going to buy” and continue our Deciphering the DCU with Crisis of Conscience. Flashback reviews take a one week hiatus, but should be back next week.
