Comic Timing – Episode 56: Part 1

Part 1 of our discussion on Online Ordering is here! We also touch on the LCS, what makes one great, what drove some of us away from going to ours in favor of online, and so on. The panel is Brent, Just Bill of The Comic Book Drawerbox, John and Bob of Comic Book Page, and Tim, thefreakytiki!

You can e-mail the show at comictiming@gmail.com, and please vote for us at Podcast Alley and Digg us at Digg.Com. And of course, if you can, please donate to the HERO Initiative effort if you can. Every little bit helps!

Thanks for listening, thanks for downloading, and I shall see you next week for Part 2!

Around Comics Ep. 171 – Cat Bites Dog

This week, on another roundtable, our heroes Chris, Tom, Sal and Skottie, jump the Rio Grande and get in some trouble. On Part I of this extra-long roundtable, the panel discusses their top of the stack picks including Alice in Sunderland by Bryan Talbot, Fell Vol. 1, Punisher Max Vol. 1, Nextwave: Agents of HATE Vol. 1, and Superman Confidential #11. Meanwhile…we talk a little bit about Skottie’s X-Men project, driving and fighting bobcats, why we own pitbulls, if Absinthe without mercury is worth drinking, how Wendy’s makes no sense, why Chris loves Manga, punching Akira with a fistful of liberty, the history of the McDonald’s characters, and we finish up with some emails. Don’t forget to check back next week to hear part II of this episode.

Super Fan Spotlight #002: Mario Muscar

John Mayo and Bob Bretall talk with Mario Muscar, the comic book geek from season 2 of “Beauty and the Geek” with the claim to fame of having 25,000 comic books.

At long last, the contents of the discussion that took place back on December 15th, 2007 can be finally be revealed… (Okay, the truth is that for a variety of reasons, John didn’t get this episode edited any where near as fast as he should have for which he apologizes.)

CCL Podcast #157 – Trading Darwyn Cooke

Collected Comics Library Podcast #157

21,371Kb; 22m 31s

If you’re like me, you never heard of Darwyn Cooke before DC: The New Frontier came out in 2003. Since then, however, Cooke has been on a tear, working on a wide range of projects including Batman, The Spirit, Catwoman, X-Force, Spider-Man and even Painkiller Jane. Today on the show I tell you a bit about his pre-New Frontier days and where you can find his work in collected edition form.

Also, I talk a bit on Marvel, Image, Detroit Podcasters Network and answer an e-mail about Shang-Chi Master of Kung Fu. We have a new Question of the Month in time for Valentines Day and as always I go over the New Releases of the Week.

Komicskast – #92 – THOR – Journey Into Mystery 89 – 94

Join Mr. Lyle Tucker, Van Reid, and myself Bruce Rosenberger, as we re-examine the next six Thor stories from Journey Into Mystery issues 89 through 94. After we provide a synopsis for each story, we examine the stories and art, and we try to track the genesis of a great character while also putting the stories into Marvel’s Historical Perspective.

(BTW- if you’ve got a copy of the first Thor Marvel Masterworks, the first Thor Essentials, or a subscription to the new Marvel Comics Digital Comics site, it might be helpful to have the book or website on hand as we do occasionally reference panels and pages in various stories.)

Around Comics Ep. 169 – One Jack Off

On a three-wheeled show, our heroes Chris, Sal and Skottie lament the absence of Tom, but soldier on. First up, things get weird as Sal takes over the show and makes Chris choose only one Top of the Stack pick. He chose Resurrection #01, while Skottie talked Punisher Max Vol. 1 HC, and Sal talks the Madrox HC.

Meanwhile…we talk a little X-Men Messiah Complex, whose New X-Men are better Chris Bachalo’s or Skottie’s, whether comic book publishers should be held accountable by retailers, internet download taxes, Quebecor’s woes, the naked Wonder Woman tragedy, Mac Keynote announcements, Comanche Moon, more Steve Zahn love, more The Wire love, we rip on every other major city in America and finish up talking a little about Skottie’s upcoming project.
