CCL Podcast #148 – Starman Companion (Redux)

Collected Comics Library Podcast #148
36257Kb; 38m 24s

It’s been a very slow news week mostly due to the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Even so, all the buzz has been about the newly announced six volume Starman Omnibus. You may recall I did a feature on Starman and his creator, Jack Burnley last January for episode #102. Today, I replay part of that feature and add new information to make it more current with the Omnibus announcement.
I also have some news regarding Valiant and the X-O Manowar Hardcover and just how that book may be distributed.
Other then that, I have details to the 4th Annual NCAA Football Bowl Contest. Full details will be available on Monday morning on my site, but for now you can get a sneak peak at the prizes.
Lastly, I have a new Question of the Month and go over an extensive New Releases of the Week.

Rogues Gallery – Episode 5: Sinestro

In blackest day, in brightest night. Beware your fears made into light. Let those who try to stop what’s right, burn like my power… Sinestros might! Damian Smith, alias Lord Shaper of the Kryptographik Podcast, joins me for another installment of the Rogues Gallery. We go through the storied history behind Sinestro, from his time as The Greatest Green Lantern, all the way to his downfall into corruption. What makes this madman tick? Hopefully after this episode, you will know!

You can e-mail the show at comictiming@gmail.com, and please vote for us at Podcast Alley and Digg us at Digg.Com. Oh, and here is a link to the Noisy Awards, where you can vote for Comic Timing as your favorite group comic book podcast! Expect Episode 51 by the end of the week, as I want to get that out before all the news we talked about is old news. Until then, thanks for listening, and thanks for downloading!

Hero for the Holidays rolls on

The first week is almost done and I just wanted to remind everyone that the Comics Podcast Network is encouraging everyone to donate to the Hero Initiative this holiday season. And if you want to know just the kind of great work that Hero does, head over to their blog and check out this post that Jim McLauchlin just put up:

I just wrote checks totaling $3000 for a creator who Hero just benefited. He wishes to remain anonymous, but our Disbursement Committee knows who he is. He lives in an area of the country, where the cost of living is moderately cheap, but still…he and his wife just rolled pennies to buy milk, and they luckily had a coupon for a free box of Cheerios. After the milk, they had $3 to their names.

There’s much more about this over at Hero’s blog. To find out how to donate, head over to our Hero for the Holiday page.

Around Comics Ep. 153 – Gobble-Gobble!

Our Heroes, Mike Norton, Skottie Young, Chris Neseman and Brian “Sal” Salazar, fight for your right to Wiki. Follow the powers of podcasting as they talk this week’s Top of the Stack picks including Captain Marvel #1, House of M: Avengers #1, No Dominion: A Novel, Checkmate Vol. 1, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier, American Flagg, Tom Strong, Mage, Watchmen, The Circle #1 and whatever else comes to mind. Meanwhile…The forces of evil shudder at our stupidity as we discuss how to slice turkey with a lightsaber, if 616 is the Number of the Beast, why Wikipedia is stupid (except for Skottie’s page), how Badger: Bull made Sal cry, why you should buy The All-New Atom #18, what t.v. shows we can’t talk about because Tom’s not here, what shows are good to draw comics to, weird sleeping habits, prank calling Dan Buckley, Southland Tales, and Donnie Darko.
